CALEB S. CHOATE (29) was born 28 July 1873 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He married Lee Vernie Norrod on the 7th of May 1899. 1900 Census indicates that he is a teacher in Overton County, Tennessee and had been teaching for 4 years. The 1910 Census shows that he is now a lawyer and that he was working "on his own account." It also states that he is living on Monroe Street in Beckham, Oklahoma. On 12 September 1918 Caleb registers for WWI. In the 1920 Census, Caleb and his family have moved into Oklahoma City, where Caleb is an Attorney in General Practice. The 1930 Census shows that Caleb is still practicing law at his own practice.

Wife -Lee Vernie Norrod (36) was born 21 May 1875 in the state of Tennessee. She married Caleb S. Choate on 7 May 1899 in Monroe/Overton, Tennesssee.
Lee Vernie is buried at Fairlawn Cemetery, Elk City, Oklahoma.

Lillian Choate was born on the 9th of September 1900 in Tennessee. On 28 December 1922 she got married to John Thomas Dell in Purcell, Oklahoma. She became the mother to two children. Lillian passed away on 30 November 1987 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. (b)

Livius Choate - was born on 23 September 1910 and at just 73 days old, Livius passed away.
Obituary - CHOATE, LIVIUS (8 Dec 1910, Thursday, Elk City Democrat, Elk City, Beckham Co, OK): DIED. Last Monday at the family residence in this city, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Choate and the remains have (sic) interred in the Elk Cemetery Tuesday, funeral services being conducted by the pastor of the Christian church, Eld. C. C. Bearden. Mr. and Mrs. Choate have found a large circle of friends during their residence in Elk City, with whom the Democrat joins in extending sympathy to the bereaved parents in this hour of sorrow. Lucian Choate - was born 20 October 1911 in Elk City, Oklahoma. Lucan and Dorothy June Moore were married 1 February 1937 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. During the Koren War Lucian served as a Corporal and at one point was on the U.S.S. General H.B. Freeman in December of 1950, travelling from Japan to Pusan, Korea. Lucian passed away on 16 December 1993.

Orlean Choate was born on 31 October 1914 in Poteau, Le Flore, Oklahoma. On 1 Oct 1950 he married Dorothy Eunice Meeker. During WWII Orlean served as a Corporal.
While searching on 26 April 1974 for headstones in Fentress County, Tennessee, Orlean died. He is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. |

FINAL RITES FOR MRS. LEE CHOATE TO BE HELD HERE
Word has been received her of the death of Mrs. Lee Vernie Choate, in Oklahoma City, Thursday, January 14, 1944. Mrs. Choate was the sister of Mrs. W. W. Hughes of Elk City.
Surviving Mrs. Choate are: a daughter, Mrs. J. T. Dell of Oklahoma City; and three sons: Lucien and Julian Choate, both of Oklahoma City, the latter stationed at Will Rogers Airbase; and Orlean Choate, stationed at Boca Raton field, Florida.
In the immediate family she also leaves four sisters: Mrs. W. H. Hughes, 522 North Main street, Elk City; Mrs. Arrissa Bowman of Crossville, Tenn; Mrs. A G. Norrod and Mrs. John Sweat, both of Monroe, Tenn.
She is also survived by four grandchildren, all of Oklahoma City. (c)

Last rites for Mrs. Leevernia Choate, 68, early-day resident of Elk City, were conducted here Saturday afternoon with burial at Fairlawn cemetery with Rev. Horace Lee Janes, First Baptist church minister, officiating.
Funeral services had been held Friday at Oklahoma City where she .............the Emanuel Baptist church was in charge of the rites there.
Mrs. Choate moved to Elk City in 1907. Her husband, the late Kenneth Choate preceded her in death five years ago and was buried here. A son, Livous Choate, also died in infancy and was interred here.
In 1912 Mr. and Mrs. Choate left Elk City, moving to Poteau, later moving to Oklahoma City where the latter had resided for 25 years prior to her death. (c)

Funeral services were held at the Garrison Funeral home January 14. Bro. Mack Stanfield, pastor of Emanuel Baptist church, of which Mrs. Choate had been a member for 20 years, conducting the service. The body was brought to Elk City January 15th and interment was in Fairlawn cemetery.
Survivors are Mrs. J. T. Dell, Oklahoma City, a daughter and Lucia, Julian and Orlin Choate, sons: two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Hughes of Elk City and Mrs. John Sweat of Monroe, Tennessee, and a brother A G. Norrod of Monroe, Tennessee.
Mrs. Hughes is also in receipt of a letter announcing the death at Cassville, Tennessee, of another sister, Mrs. Arissa Bowman, aged 86 years which occurred December 26th. (c)

Burial rites for Caleb Choate, 65 years old, early-day Elk City resident who died at 1 p.m. Thursday at an Oklahoma City hospital, were to be held Friday afternoon at Fairlawn cemetery.
Mr. Choate died after a three week critical illness. He had been in ill health for about four years. Funeral services were held Friday morning at the Emanuel Baptist church of Oklahoma City.
Mr. Choate was born in 1874 in Fentris county Tennessee. He was married in 1897 at Monroe, Tenn. to Lee Vernia Norrod.
They came to Elk City in 1908, remaining here until 1914.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lee Vernia Choate; one daughter and three sons. The daughter is Mrs. J. T. Dell, Oklahoma City. Julian Choate, Shawnee , and Orleon Choate, Oklahoma City. Two sisters, Mrs. Lois Reeves and Mrs. Annie Crabtree both living in Tennessee and two brothers Rufus and Isaac Choate also survive. Other survivors are two grandchildren.
Burial was to be beside a son who died in infancy here.
Mr. Choate was the brother-in-law of Mrs. W. H. Hughes, 522 North Main street. (c)
